The NDIS rollout is in full swing across the East Melbourne Region. People receiving an Individual Support Package in the inner east can expect to transition before September 2018.
The team at IDS is actively supporting our clients and working with them as they transition to the new scheme to help them prepare for the changes the NDIS will bring. We realise that the experience of transitioning onto the NDIS will be different for each of our clients. For some, it is a welcome opportunity, while others face the change with uncertainty and trepidation, this is why we offer pre-planning services. IDS provides advice and assistance during the transition process, ensuring our clients have access to information that is relevant to their requirements. We also work with our clients to establish their goals and aspirations, so they are prepared for their planning meeting. Where requested we will attend NDIS planning meetings with our clients as their support person.
This triangular relationship between our clients the NDIS planner and our team occasionally highlights issues that may not have been addressed if we had not supported our clients. Because we have a history of supporting clients during the transition, we can raise any problems directly with the planner or contact the NDIS when they cannot be resolved during the meeting.
If you are not a current client of IDS and would like to take up our services and have an issue we can still help. We have been contacted by people supported by other agencies who have transitioned to the NDIS, where their plan does not provide adequate supports for them to meet their goals. Where this has happened we have contacted their NDIS planner to make enquiries and request an update of the plan or a formal review.
How to get the most out of your NDIS planning meeting
l Ask for a face-to-face meeting if you are contacted by a planner or local area coordinator. You can also request a representative from IDS or someone else to go with you if you would like additional support.
l Be prepared. Know what you want and need before you have a planning meeting.
l Seek advice from a trusted source who is well informed before your planning meeting. We can arrange pre-planning support with you before your planning meeting.
l Have supporting documentation that can justify your request. This may not be required however, it is important that planners are provided with information about your and goals and the supports you require.
If you have questions about how to prepare for your NDIS planning meeting, or would like us to assist you in the planning process, call a member of the IDS Individualised Support Team on 9340 5100. We are to here to work with you and try to answer your questions and allay your concerns.
